Ragtime   This work of historical fiction blends the lives of three fictional American figures in New York City into the actions of real figures from the period between the turn of the 19th century and the beginning of World War I. E.L. Doctorow carefully interspersed fiction with reality to create a vaguely educational, and highly readable postmodern novel. Ragtime also inspired the extraordinarily popular musical of the same name.
